First Time at a Med Spa? Here's What to Expect

Walking into a medical spa for the first time can feel a little intimidating — especially when you're not sure what to ask for, what treatments are right for you, or what the experience will actually be like.

We get it. And we want to change that.

At Beautification Med Spa in Concord, CA, we've built our practice around making every patient feel informed, comfortable, and genuinely cared for — whether it's your first appointment or your fiftieth. Here's a complete guide to what you can expect.

Before You Arrive

Do a Little Research (But Don't Overthink It)

It helps to have a general sense of what's bothering you about your skin before your consultation. Are you noticing fine lines? Uneven texture? Loss of volume? Persistent breakouts? You don't need to know exactly what treatment you want — that's what we're here for — but having a starting point helps us have a more productive conversation.

Browse our treatments page to get familiar with what we offer. Don't worry if it feels overwhelming; your provider will guide you.

What to Bring

  • A list of any medications, supplements, or skincare products you're currently using
  • Any relevant medical history (autoimmune conditions, history of cold sores, recent surgeries)
  • A photo ID
  • Questions — seriously, write them down

What to Skip

  • Heavy makeup (we'll need to assess your skin)
  • Retinoids or exfoliants for 3–5 days before any laser or resurfacing treatment
  • Blood thinners like aspirin or ibuprofen for 5–7 days before injectable treatments (if medically safe to do so)

Your Consultation

Every new patient at Beautification Med Spa starts with a consultation. This isn't a sales pitch — it's a genuine conversation about your skin, your goals, and what's realistic.

Your provider will:

  • Assess your skin — texture, tone, laxity, volume, and any specific concerns
  • Review your health history — to identify any contraindications or precautions
  • Discuss your goals — what bothers you most, what results you're hoping for, and your timeline
  • Recommend a treatment plan — which may include a single treatment or a combination approach
  • Walk you through what to expect — results, downtime, aftercare, and cost

We believe in honest, conservative recommendations. If a treatment isn't right for you, we'll tell you. If a less expensive option will get you the same result, we'll recommend that instead.

Our Treatment Menu: A Quick Overview

Here's a snapshot of what we offer, so you can walk in with some context:

Injectables

Botox and Dysport relax the muscles that cause expression lines — crow's feet, forehead lines, the "11s" between the brows. Results last 3–4 months. Dermal fillers (HA fillers, Sculptra) restore lost volume in the cheeks, lips, and under-eye area.

Laser Treatments

Our DEKA Tetra PRO CO₂ laser offers two modes: CoolPeel® (minimal downtime, surface renewal) and full CO₂ resurfacing (deeper correction for significant wrinkles and scarring).

Microneedling

Standard microneedling and Quadessy RF (radiofrequency microneedling) stimulate collagen production for firmer, smoother skin.

Facials

From our signature Rejuv Facial to the advanced SKNLAB protocols and Noon Aesthetics peels, we have medical-grade facial treatments for every skin type and concern.

IV Hydration

IV drips, B12 shots, and NAD+ infusions for energy, recovery, and overall wellness.

The Day of Your Treatment

Here's what a typical appointment looks like:

Arrival: Check in at our front desk. We'll review your intake forms and confirm your treatment plan.

Prep: Depending on your treatment, we may cleanse your skin, apply topical numbing cream (for laser or microneedling), or take before photos.

Treatment: Your provider will walk you through each step as it happens. Ask questions — we love them.

Post-treatment: We'll review your aftercare instructions in detail and answer any questions before you leave. You'll receive written aftercare instructions to take home.

What Does It Feel Like?

This is the question everyone wants to ask but sometimes feels awkward about. Here's the honest answer:

  • Botox/Dysport: A series of tiny pinches. Most patients are surprised by how quick and easy it is.
  • Fillers: A bit more pressure and occasional brief stinging, especially in sensitive areas. Numbing cream and ice help significantly.
  • CoolPeel®: A warm, prickling sensation — very manageable with numbing cream.
  • Microneedling: A buzzing, sandpaper-like sensation. Numbing cream is applied beforehand.
  • Facials: Generally relaxing, with some mild tingling during active ingredients or peels.

We will never rush you through a treatment. If you need a break, just say so.

After Your Appointment

Most of our treatments have little to no downtime. Here's a general guide:

TreatmentDowntime
Botox / DysportNone
Dermal fillers1–3 days (possible swelling/bruising)
CoolPeel®3–5 days (redness, peeling)
Full CO₂ resurfacing7–14 days
Microneedling1–3 days (redness)
Facials / peelsMinimal to none

We'll give you specific aftercare instructions for your treatment. Following them carefully makes a real difference in your results.

A Note on Realistic Expectations

Medical spa treatments produce real, meaningful results — but they're not magic, and they're not permanent. Most treatments require maintenance to sustain results. Some concerns (like deep volume loss or significant skin laxity) may benefit from a combination approach over time.

We'll always be honest with you about what's achievable and what timeline to expect. Our goal is for you to feel great about your results — not to oversell you on treatments you don't need.
